An Elegant Autumn Wedding

The Perfect Venue

Having visited a number of other venues, Philippa and James were struggling to find the setting of their dreams. Discovering that Davenport House had been renovated, they organised a visit with Philippa’s mother and James’s parents and realised straight away that it was ‘the one’.

“Lizzie suggested we imagine James and I walking down the stairs and greeting our guests. I looked around at our parents and saw James’s dad get all choked up. From that moment, we knew it was the venue for us.”

Design and Décor

Choosing delicate shades of pastel blue and green to complement the décor of Davenport House, the happy couple decided on a simple, elegant wedding style. Inspired by Philippa’s hexagonal shaped engagement ring, this geometric shape was carried through to the invitations, favours and signage.

“I kept the decoration minimal as I didn’t want to take anything from the venue. The table centrepieces were candelabra with flowers and we also had flowers on the newel posts and in urns.”

Bridal Style

The beautiful bride wore a dress by Catherine Parry in mikado silk with a long train and buttons down the back, finishing the look with a jacket to add a little sparkle.

Philippa accessorised with Charlotte Mills shoes and elegant jewellery.

Keeping his outfit a surprise until the big day, James looked the part in a blue Lambretta suit with oxblood Oxford shoes.

Finally, Philippa’s bridesmaids chose lilac / grey TFNC maxi dresses from ASOS.

“My bridesmaids are just beautiful so anything would have looked good on them… but when they put these dresses on they were stunning.”

Wedding Day Details

Following their romantic ceremony, welcome drinks were served before the newlyweds and their guests went in to dine.

A prawn cocktail starter was followed by shepherd’s pie and sticky toffee pudding.

“Shepherd’s pie is James’s favourite. It looked and tasted amazing and the guests loved it.”

Evening Celebrations

As the sun went down, Philippa and James danced their first dance to ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ by Frankie Valli. DJ Stuart Ojelay filled the dance floor while a live saxophonist also delighted the newlyweds and their guests.

“Our first dance was choreographed. We kept it secret! We feel so lucky as we saw Frankie Valli sing our song live two weeks after the wedding” – Philippa

An American barbecue proved to be the perfect choice for informal evening dining.

Favourite Moments

“The ceremony. From walking down the aisle and seeing James to saying our vows and me not being able to put the ring on James’s finger! There were some funny moments which made it feel more like us.”
